This is my Utopian Society project. I worked on this with my best friend and her website is, taliaw21eportfolio.weebly.com. We worked hard on the drawing and the writing on this project. This here is the writing portion and a picture of how we envisioned it. It is in the form of an interview for a news paper article. Enjoy!
Interview of Hali Varmoose
Person being interviewed: Hannah
Interviewer: Hannah
Q: Where is Hali Varmoose?
A: Just east of the Izze ocean a tropical island will come into view. From a far away view these two twin islands may look normal, but these are far off from normal, for this place is Hali Varmoose. Hali Varmoose is a land completely cut off from the rest of civilization. These two islands are really three, all connected.
Q: What is the geography on this island?
A: The land these people live on is a no-stick sand beach. This island is in the middle of the ocean all alone except for the two other small islands. This island has not only beaches is also has long flat grasslands ideal for farming.
Q: What are the waterways in this wonderful land of yours?
A:The waterways here in Hali Varmoose are half lemonade ocean and half Izze ocean. These waterways are used for recreational purposes only.
Q: What is the weather here?
A: The weather is not too hot not too cold. There is sunshine everyday and it never rains. The island is free of humidity. In my opinion the weather is perfect.
Q: What goods do you have here that are of much value?
A: Well, we have lots of bamboo and lemonade. Great combo amiright!
Q: What are the delicious foods that are harvested around here?
A: We have an abundance of fruit here and lots of candy vending machines. These candy vending machines are programmed so that they make the candy themselves. As for the fruit trees, some of the current residents find agriculture as a fun hobby.
Q: How do people get around on this island?
A: Everyone on the island owns a horse or unicorn. To get to the amusement park or the island across from us we have high speed water slides.
Q: I have been hearing so far a lot about this neighboring island, can you tell me about it?
A: The island next door is home to the other founder of this land. Her island is entirely made of candy. The basic motto is that everything that is mine is yours and yours is mine. We share everything and are constantly helping each other out.
Q: What is the architecture style on this land?
A: We make everything out of bamboo. Everything is large and elaborately decorated. Each home is created beautifully and unique. I think that making our buildings out of bamboo was brilliant considering that bamboo is a plentiful item.
Q: What language do you speak here in Hali Varmoose?
A: We speak the native language of Shmoo. Here I will give you an example: “Femoo katong nuybru ioot.” I just said three pupusas for here.
Q: What are the fun things you do here?
A: We have soccer, horseback riding, swimming, surfing, the amusement park, and the whole beach to have fun.
Interviewer: Thank you for your time and that will be all for today.
Hannah: You are very welcome and I’m glad to help.

Mini Mecca Model
This is a model of a Bedouin Campsite and what natural resources and traditions my be in it. My favorite part of this model is the tiny food that is in the tent. It is really accurate to the actual Bedouin people's food and super cute. The part that I contributed the most to is the poet, fire, tent, and note cards. I worked really hard on the Bedouin tent with my teammates to try and make it stand. It had a habit of falling over a lot. After some hot glue and persistence we made it stay.
The reason that I choose this project is because behind the delicious meal is a lot of research. We researched the Mayan's regional foods that they would eat. We also studied how GMO corn would help their civilization with issues like drought and malnutrition. The corn is drought resistant and takes much less water than regular corn. It also has added vitamins such as vitamin A and C to support the Mayan's diet.
Renaissance Revival Project
One thing that I can improve on is drawing perfect freehand circles. Even though they weren't perfect I think that the poster board still looks good. I really like how the gold lettering turned out. I think that it is a good that I emphasized on Copernicus because more people know him by that name. I also made a connection to Galileo by putting the four moons on Jupiter because I am presenting with Lyndsey who is doing Galileo for her project.
